# BIB numbers for attendees

Give every attendee an automatic, sequential participant number (BIB) when they successfully buy a ticket, for running, cycling, triathlon, and similar events.

A BIB (Body Identification Number) is a sequential participant number used at numbered events like runs, fun runs, cycling, or triathlons, for example `A0001`. On Nyebar, BIB numbers can be issued automatically: every attendee who successfully buys a ticket gets the next number in the sequence right away, shared **across all ticket types** in the same event.

## How it works

- **One sequence for the whole event.** Numbers are handed out in order regardless of ticket type. If you have 5K, 10K, and 21K tickets, all three draw from the same sequence, for example `A0001`, `A0002`, `A0003`, and so on.
- **Assigned when payment succeeds.** A BIB number is only allocated once the ticket is actually issued (payment succeeded, or for free events, once registration is complete). Unpaid reservations don't use up a number, so the sequence stays tight with no gaps.
- **You set the format.** You decide the **prefix** (letters at the front, optional) and the **starting number**. For example, prefix `A` with starting number `0001` gives `A0001` for the first attendee.

## Where attendees see their number

Once payment succeeds, the attendee's BIB number appears on:

- The **e-ticket PDF** they can download.
- The **confirmation email**, in the section listing the attendees' BIB numbers.
- The **order page** (ticket card) on Nyebar.

On your side as the organizer, BIB numbers also show up in the **attendee list** and in the **attendee export** file (Excel), so they're easy to match during race pack collection or check-in. BIB numbers that start with zero (for example 0012) stay intact in that file.

## How to turn it on

You can turn it on yourself, right from the dashboard.

1. Open your event, then go to the **Settings** tab.
2. In the **BIB Number** section, click **Set Up BIB Numbers**.
3. Switch on **Turn on BIB numbers**, fill in the **Prefix** (optional) and **Starting number**, then click **Save**.

Once saved, BIB numbers are issued automatically with every purchase from then on.

> **Leading zeros keep the width fixed**
>
> Write the starting number with leading zeros if you want a fixed number of digits, for example `0001` gives `A0001, A0002, ...`. If you write `1` without zeros, the numbers are `A1, A2, ...`. Leave the prefix empty for plain numbers without letters.

> **Turn it on before tickets go on sale**
>
> It's best to turn on BIB numbers **before** tickets start selling. Attendees whose tickets were issued before the feature was on don't get a number automatically, so they need to be handled separately. Turning it on early means every attendee is numbered neatly from the start.

> **The format locks once numbering starts**
>
> As long as no number has been issued yet, you're free to change the prefix, starting number, and digit width. After the first number is issued, all three are locked so no numbers clash or change after they've been printed on attendees' tickets, but you can still switch numbering on or off.

## Is it right for my event?

BIB numbers are designed for events with participant numbers, such as runs, fun runs, fun walks, cycling, triathlons, or obstacle runs. For other events that don't use participant numbers, you don't need to turn this feature on.
