# Tracking sales by promotion channel

Make a tracking link for each promotion channel, then see visits and sales from each one on the Overview tab.

If you promote your event in several places, such as Instagram, a community WhatsApp group and influencers, tracking links show you where buyers come from. Each channel gets its own link. Visits and sales from each link are counted separately, so you can see which channel brings the most registrations.

## Creating a tracking link

1. Open your event, go to the **Settings** tab, find **Tracking links** and click **Create link**.

2. Fill in **Channel name** with a name you'll recognize in the report, such as **Instagram Story**, **Morning Run WhatsApp group** or **Influencer Dina**. The link it makes shows right below.
3. Click **Create link**. The link is copied right away; paste it in your bio, caption or promotion message for that channel.

Need the link again? Click the copy icon on its row. Each event can have up to 10 tracking links.

## Seeing the results

Open your event's **Overview** tab. The **Sales by source** card appears once tickets have sold, and shows for each source:

- **Visits**: how many times the event page was opened through that link. One person counts once every 30 minutes.
- **Conversion**: the share of visits that ended in an order.
- **Tickets** and **Sales**: tickets and sales value from confirmed orders. The sales value is only shown to team members with finance access.

Besides the links you made, the card also shows:

- **Ticket widget**: buyers who came from the ticket widget on your website.
- Tags you wrote into a link yourself, marked **tagged by hand**.
- **Direct (no link)**: buyers who opened the plain event link.

The buyer's source is also in the order detail (**Finance** tab) and in the order export file.

## Common questions

**What if a buyer opens a tracking link and buys a few days later?** It still counts. Nyebar remembers the source in the buyer's browser for 30 days, even if they come back through the plain link. If they open another tracking link later, the last one opened counts.

**Can I use my own `utm_source`?** Yes. Add `?utm_source=channel-name` to the end of the event link. Spaces and capital letters are tidied, so `Instagram Bio` is counted as `instagram-bio`. If you later create a tracking link with the same name, the numbers join up.

**What happens when I delete a link?** It's no longer listed, but the visits and sales already counted stay in the Sales by source card.

> Instagram doesn't add any source to the link in your bio. Use a tracking link, such as **Instagram Bio**, so buyers from your bio aren't counted as Direct.
